Description

The Mountain Hardwear AMG 55 Pack is a 55-liter alpine mountaineering pack with a 7000-series aluminum stay frame, a body in 200D Spectra ripstop nylon with TPU coating, and an 840D carbonate nylon base. It targets technical missions from ski touring to climbing, where material durability matters more than shaving grams. At 2096 g, that works out to 38.1 g per liter of capacity — notably higher than the larger AMG 105's 22.2 g/l, which shows that smaller packs in this line pay a disproportionate weight penalty for the rigid frame and padded back system relative to their volume. A contact-padded back, load-lifter straps, and a padded hip belt with pockets keep the load stable when carrying climbing gear. The pack has one ice axe loop, two side and two front pockets, and hydration compatibility, but no integrated rain cover. It suits multi-day alpine and ski-touring trips better than lightweight summer trekking, where the frame's weight becomes an unnecessary burden.
