The SteriPen Ultra is a rechargeable UV water purifier using UV-C light to treat 1 litre of water in 90 seconds, eliminating a claimed 99.99% of viruses, bacteria, and protozoa. Unlike filter-based systems it has no replaceable cartridge — the process relies on a sealed UV lamp rated for 8,000 treatments, good for years of use without buying consumables. An OLED display shows battery status and treatment progress, giving immediate feedback on whether a cycle completed correctly.
At 140 g, the Ultra is one of the heavier UV purifiers in the SteriPen range (the smaller Ultralight weighs about half as much), but it adds the display and a larger battery good for up to 50 litres per charge. It works with bottles that have a mouth diameter of at least 38 mm, covering wide-mouth bottles rather than narrow sport bottles. Like other UV purifiers, it can't handle cloudy water and does nothing for taste or chemicals — disinfection, not filtration, requiring a clear source. It suits treks with flowing water where the priority is quickly neutralizing pathogens without spare filters.
