Mountain Hardwear Trango 2 Tent

The Mountain Hardwear Trango 2 is a freestanding, four-season geodesic tent for two, built for expedition and mountaineering use rather than three-season backpacking. Five DAC Featherlight NSL poles form the geodesic frame, and the pitch-inner-first setup along with a bathtub floor rated to 10,000mm hydrostatic head reflect a design meant for sustained exposure to snow and standing water, not casual weekend trips. At a minimum weight of 3905 g (4371 g packaged), it is considerably heavier than three-season backpacking tents — a direct trade-off for the 70D nylon taffeta fly (2000mm) and factory-taped seams that hold up to real winter storms. Two vestibules totaling 2.22 m² give substantial gear storage relative to the 3.72 m² floor area, useful for stashing boots, packs and climbing gear away from the 97 cm peak height interior. Eight interior pockets add organization for a shelter that may serve as a multi-day base in exposed terrain. Without a snow skirt but with 12 stakes and D-shaped doors on both sides, this is purpose-built mountaineering gear for climbers and winter expeditions, not an ultralight thru-hiking shelter.
