The Elixir 4 is the largest tent in MSR's freestanding double-wall line, with 5.11 m² of floor space and 2.97 m² of combined vestibule storage across two doors — enough room for four sleepers, or fewer people with substantially more gear, and a peak height of 122 cm that allows kneeling and moving around without stooping as much as the smaller Elixir models require. That space comes at a packed weight of 4210 g and a minimum trail weight of 3720 g, which splits to roughly 1 kg per person across four occupants but makes this a poor fit for solo or duo backpacking. Construction follows the rest of the family: aluminum poles, 75D ripstop fly and floor rated to 1500 mm and 3000 mm, factory-taped seams, and partial mesh paneling to balance ventilation against warmth. Listed use cases include family camping alongside backpacking, which fits the profile better than thru-hiking does — it's best suited to short-approach group trips and car-adjacent basecamps rather than long-distance travel where every kilogram carried matters.
