MSR Front Range 4P Shelter Green

The MSR Front Range 4P is a floorless tarp shelter for four people that skips dedicated poles entirely, pitching instead on trekking poles as its centre support – so the pack only carries the canopy and stakes. The fabric is 20D ripstop nylon with Xtreme Shield treatment and a 1200 mm water column; seams need sealing by the user. A 274×274 cm footprint and 162 cm peak height give 7.52 m2 of covered space. At 910 g in standard trim (740 g minimum), split across four people that comes to 228 g each – a good number for a group willing to carry one shared shelter instead of four separate tents. The package includes 6 Groundhog stakes and guylines; the floor and bug netting are not included and are sold separately. Without a floor or full walls it offers less protection from wind-driven rain and insects than an enclosed tent, but its low weight and simple geometry make it a practical choice for group ultralight camping and warm-weather thru-hiking.
