Therm-a-Rest BaseCamp™

The BaseCamp is Therm-a-Rest's self-inflating pad built for car camping rather than backpacking, and its numbers make that clear: 1140 g in the regular 183 x 51 cm size, with 5.1 cm of open-cell polyurethane foam inside. The foam partially re-inflates itself once the valve is opened, needing only a few extra breaths to top off, rather than being blown up from empty like a pure air pad. With an R-value of 6.0 (tested to ASTM F3340-18) it's rated for four-season, winter-capable insulation — a genuinely high number that explains most of the weight, since foam-core pads trade R-value efficiency for durability rather than chasing the low grams-per-R-value ratios thin-film inflatables reach. The single WingLock valve moves air fast in both directions, and the pad packs down to 54 x 22 cm with the included stuff sack. This isn't a pad for anyone counting grams on a thru-hike; at over a kilogram it belongs to base camps, car camping, and cold-weather trips where warmth and puncture resistance matter more than pack weight.
