The Therm-a-Rest Trail Pro is a self-inflating sleeping pad built around 7.6 cm of open-cell StrataCore foam, rated for 4-season/winter use. Opening the valve lets the foam draw in most of the air on its own; a few extra breaths top it off — the usual trade-off of added comfort and durability against a weight penalty compared to pure air pads with similar insulation.
The R-value of 4.4, measured to ASTM F3340-18, puts the Trail Pro in cold-weather territory, useful when ground temperatures undercut a lighter 3-season pad. In the Regular size (183 × 51 cm) it weighs 850 g, heavier than most inflatable pads at this R-value — the pay-off is a plusher, quieter sleep surface and foam-core resilience that tolerates rough ground and repeated abuse better than air-only constructions. The 50D stretch-knit top fabric improves sleeping bag grip, while the 75D solution-dyed bottom fabric resists abrasion.
The WingLock valve speeds up both inflation and deflation, and a stuff sack is included. This is a pad for base-camp trips, comfort-oriented backpacking, or cold-weather touring where reliability matters more than shaving grams.
