REI Co-op Trail Hut 4 Tent with Footprint

The REI Co-op Trail Hut 4 Tent with Footprint is a freestanding 4-person 3-season dome built more for family camping and car camping than for lightweight backpacking. It uses a 3-pole aluminum system with 8.5 mm poles, and the double-wall build pairs a PU-coated polyester fly with a polyester inner over a bathtub floor carrying the same coating. A 5.11 m2 floor and 122 cm peak height allow near-standing headroom and enough room to lay out sleeping bags for four, while the two D-doors and their combined 1.44 m2 of vestibule space keep boots and packs out of the sleeping area. At 3677 g total and 3175 g in its lightest setup, that works out to 919 g and 794 g per person with a full group — heavy for a backpacking tent, but a reasonable trade for the space and stability it gives a group. The footprint ships in the box and guy lines are included for pitching. In green, it is a straightforward option for drive-in camping or short approaches where pack weight is not the limiting factor.
