Tarptent Hogback

The Hogback is Tarptent's four-person double-wall tent, aimed less at ultralight solo travel than at groups and families wanting a lighter, more packable alternative to conventional car-camping domes. A semi-freestanding structure with five aluminum poles and the PitchLoc corner-strut system gives it dome-like stability without needing full guy-out for a basic pitch, though it is not designed for trekking-pole setup. At 1,786 g minimum trail weight split across four occupants, that works out to roughly 447-475 g per person — a meaningful reduction versus typical family tents, even if it's well outside solo-UL territory. Floor area is 4.77 m² (218 × 218 cm) under a 125 cm peak, with full mesh inner walls for ventilation and two vestibules for shared gear storage. The 20D sil-poly fly and 30D nylon floor (PU-coated) are practical rather than premium-light fabrics, and seams require user sealing before first use since they aren't factory taped. It suits multi-day backpacking trips where the weight is distributed across several hikers rather than a single one.
