The Tarptent StratoSpire 1 is a non-freestanding, double-wall single-person shelter pitched entirely with two trekking poles — no dedicated tent poles at all. At 933 g it sits solidly in ultralight territory, and the A-frame shape with fully mesh inner is built for 3-season-extended use rather than winter conditions, with a 3000 mm fly rating suited to sustained rain rather than extreme storms. What stands out is the space allocation: 1.77 m² of floor area is paired with 2.38 m² of vestibule space split across two doors — more covered storage than sleeping area, which is unusual and useful for stashing a wet pack or cooking under cover without touching the inner tent. Total livable space adds up to 4.15 m². As with several TarpTent silnylon shelters, seam sealing is left to the user before first use. This suits ultralight thru-hikers who already carry trekking poles and want maximum vestibule flexibility for gear storage and cooking, in exchange for the wind stability and effortless pitch of a freestanding pole structure.
