Zpacks Altaplex Tent

The Zpacks Altaplex is a one-person, single-wall ultralight shelter in the pyramid (tipi) style, pitched with a single trekking pole. Being non-freestanding, it relies on tension between the apex and staked-out corners rather than pole weight: the minimal Lite build comes in at 374 g, while the Standard version with a full-mesh inner weighs 467 g — worth weighing against how much bug and drip protection you want. Floor dimensions of 229 × 102 cm and a 147 cm peak height give one hiker room to sit up and store gear, backed by two vestibules totaling 1.2 m² and two doors, useful for cooking outside the mesh or keeping wet gear separate. Both fly and bathtub floor are Dyneema Composite Fabric with factory-taped seams, so the fabric won't absorb water and packed weight stays consistent trip after trip. It suits 3-season backpacking and thru-hiking where every gram counts, but the non-freestanding pyramid design depends on solid stake-out points and is a poor match for rocky or frozen ground where stakes won't bite.
