The Exped Ultra 5R Mummy shares the 4.8 R-value (ASTM F3340-18) of the rectangular Ultra 5R but wraps it in a tapered mummy shape — the result is 445 g against 584 g for the flat version, a saving of over 130 g at the cost of narrower shoulder and foot room. Insulation comes from Synmat Technology, 160 g/m² Texpedloft microfiber welded to the air chambers with horizontal baffles. Weight per R-point works out to just under 93 g, one of the best ratios among pads of this kind and a figure that makes this pad a strong candidate for winter and shoulder-season thru-hiking where every gram counts. At 7 cm thick it gives a solid cushion off the ground, and it packs to 23 × 12.5 cm. The top fabric is recycled 20D ripstop polyester. The package includes a Schnozzel Pumpbag, stuff sack, and repair kit; the pad is bluesign certified and carries a 5-year warranty.
