TarpTent Saddle 2

The TarpTent Saddle 2 is a double-wall, 3-season tent for two that needs four trekking poles to pitch — the manufacturer does not include dedicated poles, so it assumes hikers are already carrying them for the trail. The silpoly fly alone weighs 524 g and the inner tent 454 g, with a floor area of 2.72 m², which works out to 1.36 m² per person for two occupants. Silpoly fabric has an advantage over silnylon in that it stretches less when wet and holds its tension better overnight, so the fly typically does not need re-tensioning after rain sets in. The silnylon bathtub floor guards against ground moisture. The inner is only partially mesh, with ventilation handled by a combination of a peak vent, a door vent and cross-ventilation. The tent is not freestanding — pitching it takes six stakes (Easton aluminum nail stakes are included) plus guy lines, which also ship with the tent. The inner can be pitched on its own, and an optional footprint is available. Seams require user sealing before the first outing.
