The Hyperlite Mountain Gear UltaMid 2 is a non-freestanding pyramid shelter for two, pitched on a single trekking pole and tensioned between the apex and eight perimeter tie-out points. It is floorless and single-wall by design — the mesh inner is sold separately and attaches via a built-in connection point, so the shelter can be run solo for minimum weight or paired with an inner for full bug and splash protection. The fly is DCF (Dyneema Composite Fabric), a non-absorbent, low-stretch laminate, with factory-taped seams. At 538 g (510 g in minimum trim) and 7.06 m² of floor area, that works out to roughly 269 g and 3.5 m² per person — figures typical of ultralight shelters that trade some wind stability and interior comfort, inherent to non-freestanding pyramids, for pack weight. A 163 cm peak height allows sitting but not standing. One peak vent and a single side door with a water-resistant YKK zipper round out a shelter rated for extended 3-season through alpine use, suiting thru-hikers and mountain trips where gram-counting matters more than headroom.
